There is a special screening Tuesday, July 23, at 6 p.m. of the documentary, In The Absence, that will spotlight the long-term effects of disinvestment in core city neighborhoods. It will be held at Habitat for Humanity at 7136 Winchester Road.
This month’s viewing, part of a nine-part docuseries, focuses on how Environmental Court serves Memphis. There will be a brief panel discussion.
By holding code violators accountable through various measures of enforcement, the City of Memphis Public Works Division is also working to ramp up their services to ensure that the City of Memphis is working toward a proactive and impactful clean city movement.
By diminishing property values, increasing chronic hospital visits, diluting the effectiveness of city services, and more, property blight places heavy burdens on tax-paying citizens; but with the right policies and enforcement, these issues can be reversed.
