I am incredibly hopeful for what the New Year will bring in Memphis.
Across the country and in our own community, we are seeing increasing evidence that children in even the most challenging circumstances can achieve at the highest level. The road to transforming our city’s education system into one that consistently produces excellence will require a vigilant commitment to the highest possible expectations; an unflinching ability to look at hard realities, and faith in our ability to change no matter the cost.
History is replete with examples of “things that cannot be done” but my experience as a teacher showed me that the only limits our kids have are those we place on them. Our children shall overcome.
