The following are the recent Memphis and Shelby County Industrial Board’s tax waivers and the companies’ revenues:
Smith & Nephew:
Taxes Waived – $6.2 million over 15 years
Annual Revenues – $3.8 billion
ServiceMaster:
Taxes Waived – $1.2 million over 10 years
Annual Revenues – $3.4 billion
McKesson Corp.:
Taxes waived – $32.6 million over 15 years
Annual Revenues: $106.6 billion
It would also be interesting to see how much in charitable giving each company provides to various organizations around town.

I still want to know what two Chamber of Commerce staffers meant when they said that our taxes are not high enough to offer competitive incentives to attract/retain businesses.
Our tax-freeze program (PILOT) doesn’t pass the smell test. Is it from general ignorance or manipulation of public officials for a few coins of silver?
Or a combination of the two?
